Year: Fourth-year student project

Collaboration: Site Analysis with 10-person team; 

Designed with Catherine Quigley; Physical Model built Individually

Assignment: Ten-person team redevelop Vine City as a Transit-Oriented Development. Two-person team focus on the city's MARTA station. Serves as front door to community; across from Georgia Dome; high crime; weak sense of community; emerging Art District, Hotel, and Green Space surrounding station in team designs; portion of tracks changes from underground to ground level due to drastic topography change.

Precedents: Denver Union Station; Bernard Tschumi's Follies in the Park

Concept: iconic structure; combine use of space by Dome-users and community; make usable 365 per year;  connection to art district and hotels, increase safety with well-lit station, recognizable train line markers, and intuitive directionality.

Design: Corridor rich in pedestrian life; station designed 

 

for directional guaidance toward popular destinations; covered multi-purpose area stretched linearly aside grade-level tracks for use as an Art Shed, Farmer's Market, etc.; lightwells and station entrances as directional markers; multi-purpose green space for use as tailgating space for Ga Dome users; one primary station entrance on each side of Northside Drive artery.
